New recruits to the Dragon’s Teeth guild are required to maintain the support of a sponsor, one of the A-List members of the guild. While sponsors are expected to spend some time socializing and training their recruits, it’s also expected that new recruits head out for some real experience and to make money to pay their dues. Typically this involves 4 recruits overseen by a sponsor fulfilling a real (albeit simple) contract. These are seen as ways for recruits to prove their worth and stand out amongst their peers.
Some of the more experienced recruits in the dormitories have done the math to determine that there are many more recruits at any given time than actual guild members. Whispers about the reason for this run the gamut from the sinister (cannibalism) to the alarming (jobs are more deadly than advertised) to the mundane (many recruits are dismissed for not performing as well as their peers.) Although nobody knows for sure what is going on, everyone agrees that recruits who go on more jobs (and are thus absent for more of the guild feasts,) tend to disappear less frequently.
Yesterday, Cole, an A-lister and one of the guild’s trackers announced that he might have the time to take a group of recruits out for a job: protecting an expedition while they gather resources. Apparently the local pottery trade requires a special play clay that they call “mudder’s milk” and is used to make especially fine porcelain. The deposits are found next to a small lake a few days hike away. This lake is a local watering hole and in the past, some expeditions have been attacked by the local wildlife, hence the pay for protection. Cole’s addendum to the job is that this should be a simple babysitting gig and that he’s hoping to teach people a thing or two about survival and tracking.
Who wants to go?
Party met up, Cole (A-list adventurer) told us to contemplate awkwardly for 30 minutes in a wagon
We then introduced ourselves during the long ride to the jobsite.
Fast forward a few days, we get to the camp (we're with a bunch of potters on a clay collection expedition that we're supposed to protect
Cole gives us a bit of info then says we're in charge and disappears into the forest with his huge crossbow
Camp is along a river, we take the directions to make it defensible seriously
The next day there's a fight between workers that the players break up (via Kaifi’s fire/steam intimidation and Deni yelling silence via minor illusion in the middle of them.
Brian goes after their trail, and Deni follows him
The rest of the group & enemies meet in the clearing
Cole notices the book and sack, and tells Brian to put the book in the sack.
Goods are returned and the rest of the trip is uneventful (read: we ran out of time).
We ran out of time in the adventure so this sketch is all created by the DM.
